A Little Bit Weird and a Lot of Fun

Between the cuteness of elementary and the milestones of high school, middle school is often left out of the spotlight. To celebrate the work of our middle school crew we gave them their own GooseChase game this week and the results were better than we could have imagined. We started off with 50 challenges but they were all completed immediately so we had to scramble to keep adding more. Katrina eventually crammed 100 challenges into the online scavenger hunt.

While I'm often often pegged as a high school guy I actually spent the best 8 years of my teaching time on the middle school team at a K-12 school. I found my elementary friends to be a bit too serious about straight lines and my high school friends a bit too serious about content. My middle school friends were just right.

What did I learn during my middle school time?

1. Between the cuteness and the milestones is a lot of awkward energy and great things can be done with it if you get it moving in the right direction.
2. It takes a special person to get that energy moving. That's why the best middle school teachers are a little bit weird and a lot of fun. 

So it was great to catch them in their natural habitat this week being just that.
